Betty Presgraves' 50th Year as Choir Director Celebration.
On August 27th, we celebrated Betty Presgraves' 50 years as the Choir Director at Rural Retreat United Methodist Church!
Service at the Lake
On August 20th, we held our annual Service at the Rural Retreat Lake. It was a great itme of worship, fellowship, and fun!
Summer of Serve- Second Event
On July 31st & August 1st, we partnered with others in our community to help stain the visitor’s bleachers at the Rural Retreat High School football field!!
Membership & Baptisms
On July 23rd, we baptized Kyle and Bob and brought them into membership with Janice!! We are so excited for all that God is doing in their lives, our church, and community!! God is good!!!
Summer of Serve- First Event
On June 27th, we held our first Summer of Serve event by trimming the hedges and bushes around Rural Retreat Middle School.
Women's Book Study
On June 25th, the women's group completed their book study by releasing the things that had burdened them and had them "Stuck."
Creeper Trail Ride & Baptism
On June 18th, we rode the Creeper Trail and had a baptism!
Vacation Bible School 2023
On June 11-15, we held Vacation Bible School and had an amazing time!
St. Patrick's Game Night and Rook Tournament
On March 18th, we held our St. Patrick's Meal, Game Night, and Rook Tournament. All proceeds went back into local outreach and missions.
Confirmation Recognition and Membership
On March 11th, we were honored to Confirm 10 young men and women as they publicly professed their faith in Jesus, and to bring Nate Montgomery into church membership.
Packing HOPE Packs
On March 8th, we helped prepare 961 food packs for Wythe and Bland County students to ensure they have food for the weekend.
Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper and BINGO
On February 21st, we held our annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper and BINGO event.
Free Community Kid's Movie Night
On January 11th, we held our first Free Community Kid's Movie Night.
Membership and Baptism
On January 1st, Alexis Lawson was Baptized and brought into Membership at Rural Retreat United Methodist Church.
Community Choir Sings at Rural Retreat Care Center
On December 12th, the Community Choir sang Christmas Carols for the residents at the Rural Retreat Care Center.
Christmas Program
We held our Christmas Program on Sunday, December 11th. We celebrated the Christmas Season with music from our Community and Handbell Choirs, a Children’s Christmas Play, a Shadow Play, and cookies, desserts, fellowship, and Santa.If you would like to watch the program, you can watch it here:

Sanctuary Sound Chimes Choir plays at the Rural Retreat Senior Adult Luncheon
On December 7th, the Rural Retreat United Methodist Sanctuary Sound Chimes Choir played at the Rural Retreat Senior Adult Luncheon at the Rural Retreat Community Center.
Free Community Christmas Toy Shop
On December 4th, we held our 1st Annual RRUMC Free Christmas Toy Shop, providing free Christmas gifts, toys, and clothes for children ages infant - 18.
RRUMC Hand Bell Choir performs at the Wytheville Christmas Celebration
On Saturday, December 3rd, the RRUMC Hand Bell Choir performed at the Wytheville Christmas Celebration.
Thanksgiving Worship Service and Community Meal
On November 16, 2022, we held our joint community Thanksgiving Worship Service and Free Community Meal. It was a wonderful night of worship, counting our blessings, being thankful, and sharing great food and fellowship with Grace and St. Paul Lutheran Churches, several other community churches, and our community. What a blessing to come together as one body and worship God together!
Received New Church Members
On November 6th, 2022, we received Jack and Lucy Grubb and James and Madge Barnett into membership at Rural Retreat United Methodist Church through transfer. We are excited to have them in our church family and for how God is going to continue using them in ministry.
Halloween Spooktacular
On Halloween, we had our annual Spooktacular, where we played games and handed out candy to kids in our community.
Fed the RRHS Football Team
On September 9th, we were blessed to feed the Rural Retreat High School Football Team before their game.
Served in RRHS Concession Stand
On September 23rd, we were blessed to serve in the Concession Stand at the Rural Retreat High School Football Homecoming Game.
Apple Butter Making
September 19th-September 28th we made Apple Butter.
Lord's Acre Sale
On October 8th, we were blessed to join 7 other local churches at the 70th Annual Lord’s Acre Sale.
Tailgate Sunday
On Sunday, October 9th, we celebrated Tailgate Sunday by wearing our favorite team’s jersey, clothing, or colors. We also shared a tailgate-style meal after the service, complete with Cornhole.
Packing HOPE Packs
On October 12th, we were blessed to pack HOPE Packs at the Open Door Cafe. There were 968 bags of food packed to ensure that children in Wythe and Bland Counties would have food over the weekend.
